The Faces of Diabetes Golf Tournament: Golf competition to help The Faces of Diabetes, a non-benefit association whose objective is to change the way individuals see diabetes. "At The Faces of Diabetes, they accept there is comfort in numbers and by exhibiting individuals, stories, and comic drama and can help break the antagonistic shame appended to diabetes and rouse others to live better lives." The Faces of Diabetes organizer, Edward Fieder, has made a photograph book loaded with representations and quotes from other individuals living with diabetes. 

 

The objective of this book is to help recently determined diabetics and those managing to have diabetes burnout understand that diabetes is NOT a capital punishment. By giving and playing in this golf competition, you are helping keep this venture pushing ahead. 750 books have just been created and are made a beeline for their pleased owners.

Treadmills for Charity: There will be two Venues in Alabama for this event this year, Fleet Feet Montgomery and Metro Fitness, to raise significantly more cash for Hope Inspired Ministries. They will have 8 treadmills running between the two areas from 6 am - 6 pm on Saturday, August twelfth.They are asking 96 people to raise at least $100 to run/walk on a treadmill for one hour (you can do more, but you must raise $100 for each hour). Come join this event and help them in showing the Power of Running to do Good!

African American Genealogy- The basics and beyond: The Alabama department of archives & history presents African American Genealogy- The basics and beyond on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Start discovering your African American ancestors and build your family tree in this half-day workshop led by the Archives' expert genealogist Nancy Dupree. This workshop will provide step-by-step instruction and guidance on the many resources available in the ADAH’s EBSCO Research Room, tips, and tricks for navigating potential research roadblocks, and address challenges specific to African American genealogical research. Dupree will focus on the basics for beginners and also provide more experienced participants valuable tools for taking their research to the next level.

This workshop is suited for all levels of research experience. Cost is $30 for the general public and $20 for Friends of the Alabama Archives members. All proceeds support the Friends of the Alabama Archives.

Alcazar Shrine Center

Alcazar Shrine Center offers spacious, tasteful decor that provides endless decorating possibilities for all Venues in Alabama. Meeting rooms are available for fewer than a hundred or a ballroom for dinner and dancing for eight hundred or more. Meeting room with a dimension of 100*140, with banquet area 850 square feet. It has 1200 classrooms which can accommodate 1100 receptions. The auditorium may be set with 8 ft. long tables seating 8 or 5 ft. round tables seating 6. Sound systems and some projection equipment are available for rental. A full kitchen with ice maker is also available.

The Red Fez Building is ideal for groups of 150 or fewer. The Red Fez has a bar, little stage, finish kitchen with icemaker, and extensive yard.

Wedding receptions, after rehearsal dinners, business meetings, or costume balls can easily be accommodated at our facilities.Alcazar Shrine Center is conveniently located off I-85 at Exit 6. We are close to Eastdale Mall, and many tourist attractions. Parking is available for more than 600 cars in a safe location.

Calm Places of Alabama Attractions

                  Confederate Memorial Park

Confederate Park is unique in Alabama history. It is the site of Alabama’s only Home for Confederate veterans (1902-1939). The park museum interprets the Confederate period and the Alabama Confederate Soldiers’ Home. Wayside signage and visitor guides enable visitors to take walking or driving tours of the Soldiers’ Home site. The recreation center nature trail takes guests through an Alabama "Treasure Forest" where they will experience the first hand-burrowed spring and 86,000-gallon store which gave water to the Soldiers' Home. 

  

The recreation center is arranged on the first 102-section of the land office, which incorporates the site of the first twenty-two buildings and two Soldiers' Home burial grounds. The Marbury Methodist Church (c.1885), where a number of Soldiers’ Home “inmates” were members, and the Mountain Creek Post Office (c.1900), where most Soldiers’ Home “inmates” would visit daily, are also part of the park. The two buildings were moved to the site from their unique areas adjacent keeping in mind the end goal to spare them. What's more, the recreation center offers a Confederate research library for the investigation of the period and added a full-scale reproduction of a Civil War garrison huts which houses our living history fighters for booked occasions.

The historical center antiquity shows, interpretive boards, and intelligent media stations enable guests to completely fathom the historical backdrop of the Alabama Confederate veteran and specifically, the historical backdrop of the Alabama Confederate Soldiers' Home. In conjunction with this beautiful Alabam Tourist Attractions, the driving and especially the walking tours allow visitors to experience the site of the Soldiers’ Home including visiting the graves of Confederate veterans who lived at the Home and whose stories are detailed in the museum.

Alabama Historical Commission owns and operates this historic site. It is one of the calm places of Alabama Attractions. Hours of Operation: Park opens at 6 AM Daily, Museum opens at 9 AM to 5 PM Daily, and Closed on State & Federal holidays. Entry Fees for Adults $4, Students, Seniors, Military $3 (Active Duty Military FREE) Children 6-18 with parent $1. Wheelchair facility is also there. Picnic area and nature trail are some more additional historical features of this park.

Confederate Memorial Park is situated about half an hour north of Montgomery. From I-65, take either Exit 186 onto U.S. 31 North or Exit. 205 (Clanton) onto U.S. 31 South. Take U.S. 31 to Mountain Creek and follow the signs.For more visit our website.
