Gump City Con: GCC is a multi-sort fan tradition for the entire family praising everything nerd at the Alcazar Shrine Center on August 12, 2017! Exceptional Guests, Panels, Cosplay Contests, Vendors, and a whole lot more! All tickets will be given at the entryway upon the arrival of the occasion. No tickets will be sent preceding the demonstration this year. There is no base age for the con. The after gathering at GTSouth Geek and Gaming Tavern is 19+. Stopping Facility is accessible there.

The Faces of Diabetes Golf Tournament: Golf competition to help The Faces of Diabetes, a non-benefit association whose objective is to change the way individuals see diabetes. "At The Faces of Diabetes, they accept there is comfort in numbers and by exhibiting individuals, stories, and comic drama and can help break the antagonistic shame appended to diabetes and rouse others to live better lives." The Faces of Diabetes organizer, Edward Fieder, has made a photograph book loaded with representations and quotes from other individuals living with diabetes.

The objective of this book is to help recently determined diabetics and those managing to have diabetes burnout understand that diabetes is NOT a capital punishment. By giving and playing in this golf competition, you are helping keep this venture pushing ahead. 750 books have just been created and are made a beeline for their pleased owners.

Treadmills for Charity: There will be two Venues in Alabama for this event this year, Fleet Feet Montgomery and Metro Fitness, to raise significantly more cash for Hope Inspired Ministries. They will have 8 treadmills running between the two areas from 6 am - 6 pm on Saturday, August twelfth.They are asking 96 people to raise at least $100 to run/walk on a treadmill for one hour (you can do more, but you must raise $100 for each hour). Come join this event and help them in showing the Power of Running to do Good!

African American Genealogy- The basics and beyond: The Alabama department of archives & history presents African American Genealogy- The basics and beyond on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Start discovering your African American ancestors and build your family tree in this half-day workshop led by the Archives' expert genealogist Nancy Dupree. This workshop will provide step-by-step instruction and guidance on the many resources available in the ADAH’s EBSCO Research Room, tips, and tricks for navigating potential research roadblocks, and address challenges specific to African American genealogical research. Dupree will focus on the basics for beginners and also provide more experienced participants valuable tools for taking their research to the next level.

This workshop is suited for all levels of research experience. Cost is $30 for the general public and $20 for Friends of the Alabama Archives members. All proceeds support the Friends of the Alabama Archives.
