Confederate Memorial
Park
Confederate Park is
unique in Alabama history. It is the site of Alabama’s only Home
for Confederate veterans (1902-1939). The park museum interprets the
Confederate period and the Alabama Confederate Soldiers’ Home.
Wayside signage and visitor guides enable visitors to take walking or
driving tours of the Soldiers’ Home site. The recreation center
nature trail takes guests through an Alabama "Treasure Forest"
where they will experience the first hand-burrowed spring and
86,000-gallon store which gave water to the Soldiers' Home.
The recreation center
is arranged on the first 102-section of the land office, which
incorporates the site of the first twenty-two buildings and two
Soldiers' Home burial grounds. The Marbury Methodist Church (c.1885),
where a number of Soldiers’ Home “inmates” were members, and
the Mountain Creek Post Office (c.1900), where most Soldiers’ Home
“inmates” would visit daily, are also part of the park. The two
buildings were moved to the site from their unique areas adjacent
keeping in mind the end goal to spare them. What's more, the
recreation center offers a Confederate research library for the
investigation of the period and added a full-scale reproduction of a
Civil War garrison huts which houses our living history fighters for
booked occasions.
The historical center
antiquity shows, interpretive boards, and intelligent media stations
enable guests to completely fathom the historical backdrop of the
Alabama Confederate veteran and specifically, the historical backdrop
of the Alabama Confederate Soldiers' Home. In conjunction with this
beautiful Alabam Tourist Attractions, the driving and
especially the walking tours allow visitors to experience the site of
the Soldiers’ Home including visiting the graves of Confederate
veterans who lived at the Home and whose stories are detailed in the
museum.
